We are quite proud to announce one of the first (if not the very first) 3DP extension for SobiPro, LatestItems4SobiPro! As the name implies, LatestItems4SobiPro is a module for SobiPro which displays the latest items from a category and its sub-categories or from an entire section.

When we found out about SobiPro late Feb 2011, we were overjoyed. Sobi2 was in my opinion, the greatest directory listings extension for Joomla. It would allow you to build your own structured item and use an array of input types to enter data. What was even great was that there was a bundle of extensions for it as well.

SobiPro is even greater. It allows you to build multiple types of structured items. Meaning now you can have two different types of directories in your site (think fashion and real estate, that's different enough I guess). But then, there is still a problem. SobiPro is still so new, that it doesn't have many extensions built for it. This is where we decided to move in.

At the moment we are building another site based on SobiPro. One of the most important features we want to integrate is to have a module that displays the latest items from each of the sections in the directory. When we figured that there are no pre-built extensions for this, we decided to build are own; LatestItems4SobiPro.

So why are we thinking so high of our new 'invention'? Except for the fact that we built it (and wanting to pat ourselves on the back)? Well we think this is the best module to display latest items from SobiPro because it is so simple but covers everything. When you want to list latest items from a directory, there are few questions you ask; can I show latest items for any directory? I want to display the title of the item and the image and the description (or perhaps sometimes only an itemized list) can you do that? Oh and obviously I should be able to decide how many items to display.

What LatestItems4SobiPro does is to answer all these questions in affirmation and then go even further. This latest items module lets you choose whether you want to source from a single section or a directory and then traverses all the sub-directories to find the items stored even at sub-level. It allows you to choose any field as the Title, Image and the Description (since SobiPro is such a flexible extension, it lets you do the exact same thing, choose any field as the title, description and the image. There are no hardcoded fields like in Sobi2). User can decide to display any of these fields, meaning that users can easily switch between an itemized view or a fully detailed view.

Where we decided to throw something else that we had was when we decided to make the display more dynamic. As one of the potential customers told, the dynamic lists really livens a site up. So now, with LatestItems4SobiPro, you can even build a dynamic display which rotates on a pre-defined timer, showing each time one of the latest items on the directory. (And yeah well we also decided to let the user decide how many items they want to show ;) )

So yeah, that's why we think LatestItems4SobiPro is the best SobiPro Latest Items module out there. P:S: We are already in the process of building another module for SobiPro and in fact already have finished development of it. This we beleive would be the end of all listings modules for SobiPro :) It will be able to function as a Latest Items, Featured Items, Listings by currently logged in Author and many more!
